NHL Rumors: Penguins, Stars, Avalanche and Oilers
Bob Stauffer thinks the Edmonton Oilers should consider trading for Jarome Iginla
On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: (chat) Would think the Penguins would like to re-sign pending UFA defenseman Trevor Daley and RFA defenseman Justin Schultz. They have not made final decisions on any pending free agents.

On the Dallas Stars …

Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: (chat) When defenseman Julius Honka is ready to return to the lineup, the Stars need to figure out which seven defenseman they want to go with, and move the other one. Think they should move Patrik Nemeth. Nemeth carries a $900,000 cap hit so teams that are close to the salary cap ceiling should be able to fit him in. Would then return Honka to the AHL and let him play a ton of minutes.

On the Edmonton Oilers …

David Staples of the Edmonton Journal: Oilers Now host Bob Stauffer notes that Oilers do need a right handed shooting defenseman, but they may need help upfront more.

“In spite of the loss of Darnell Nurse the perception that Edmonton needs a right shot (d-man) I would argue that, yeah, they need a right shot, but the more pressing need is upfront and not on defence. If the right player were to be available, if I’m Peter Chiarelli, and I can’t speak for Peter, but if I’m Peter, I’m kind of looking at going, I might need a guy that is a shooter, if there’s a goal scorer. Maybe that players doesn’t exist but that might might be more right now than a right shot defenceman.”

Defensemen Eric Gryba and Brandon Davidson are close to returning. Stauffer thinks they need someone who can score around the net, and that Colorado Avalanche winger Jarome Iginla should be considered.

“Would I have time for Jarome Iginla? Sure. The Avs would have to take some money back, make sure. They’d have to take some short term money back. Why wouldn’t you have time for Jarome Iginla? How do you not respect Jarome Iginla. People say, Ah, he’s done, he’s finished. Never write off players like that. For a short timeframe guys like that can pull it together and they can bring it. If he were to waive (his no-trade), he’s a right wing, he’s a competitive player, he’s not the fastest guy, but he can still shoot the puck. He can one-time the puck…Hard not to like Jarome Iginla. If the opportunity presented itself, I think you’d have to look at it.”
