NHL Rumors: Senators, Predators and Oilers
Edmonton Oilers and Ottawa Senators
On the Ottawa Senators …

Ian Mendes: Senators GM Pierre Dorion doesn’t sound like he’ll be going after a big name via trade: “You can’t give up pieces that you know will be impact players down the road.”

On the Nashville Predators …

Dennis Bernstein: (answering question) Can’t see the Predators making a big trade before the deadline. They do have the salary cap space to add a rental winger.

On the Edmonton Oilers …

Jim Matheson: Have been saying for awhile that the Oilers should try to acquire former Oil King captain Curtis Lazar from the Senators.

The Fourth Period: The Oilers are looking for a top-six winger and a veteran defenseman, preferably a defenseman with an expiring contract.

As for the top-six winger, they are looking for someone that can score, has term left and can play on the left side.

They could also be interested in a third line center if they can’t add a left winger.

The Oilers have cap space that they can work with.

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Darren Dreger on TSN 1260 on what the GM Peter Chiarelli’s thought process could be heading into the trade deadline.

“I don’t project that Chiarelli is going to be doing any big game hunting,” said NHL Insider Darren Dreger during a Tuesday morning radio hit on Edmonton’s TSN 1260. “That’s not to say he’s not listening, and if another defenseman was thrown into the market that the Oilers wouldn’t try and acquire that piece – or perhaps some depth on the wing, or maybe a little bit of insurance at center ice as well. They seem okay with Caggiula as a third-line center in Edmonton, but most I think view him as being more comfortable on the wing. It’s great to have versatility, but maybe that’s an area Chiarelli takes a look at.”

Don’t get the sense that Chiarelli is itching to make a deal.
