NHL Rumors: Senators, Blues, Devils and Flames
Chris Neil and Shane Prince of the Ottawa Senators

On the Ottawa Senators …

  • Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen: Heading into last night, the Senators were four points out of the wild-card, with three teams ahead of them.

“If we win the next couple of games, it makes it more obvious that we are at least in the race,” Murray said.

“I don’t know who is out there, who we could go out shopping for, but it opens the door for different things happening. Our (original) thoughts were that we might move one player and that would be it.”

Murray confirmed again that they are not interested in adding a big-name rental, but added ..

“but if there is a player out there who could bring some immediate help, as well as be with us for a couple of years, I would certainly be open-minded to talking about that.”

Shane Prince, Alex Chiasson and Patrick Wiercioch are trade candidates.

Owner Eugene Melnyk isn’t rushing Murray for a decision on if he’ll remain as their GM next season.

“(Melnyk) has been really good and fair about it and quite interested in my health and family,” Murray said. “I feel pretty good at this point. There are a lot of factors. I want to do what’s right for all involved.”

On the St. Louis Blues …

  • Mike Morreale: Wonder if the Blues would be interested in Cam Ward now that Brian Elliott is out and Jake Allen just returned from the IR.
  • Brian Lawton: Wonder if we could see Vladimir Sobotka return to the Blues when his KHL season is over. Has a $2.725 million cap hit if he returns.

On the New Jersey Devils …

  • Tom Gulitti: IF the Devils do look to trade Lee Stempniak and David Schlemko, guess it would be for draft picks.
  • Tom Gulitti: Trading a 1st  or 2nd round pick for a rental doesn’t make sense for the Devils.

On the Calgary Flames …

  • Josh Gold-Smith: Three teams that should target Flames Jiri Hudler – Blues, Rangers and Panthers.
