NHL Rumors: Devils, Flyers, Canucks and Ducks
New Jersey Devils forward Patrik Elias after scoring on the Philadelphia Flyers
On the New Jersey Devils …

Chris Ryan Of NJ.com: Ryan looks at five things the Devils could do in August.

Patrik Elias is still rehabbing his knee after offseason surgery. Elias wants to play another season with the Devils.

They still need to re-sign some of their free agents, including Reid Boucher.

The Devils could have chance at pending free agent Jimmy Vesey.

With more than $13 million in salary cap space, the Devils could take advantage of teams like the Penguins and Red Wings who could be looking to move out some salary.

There are still some free agents available that the Devils could look at if they want – Kris Russell and Jiri Hudler are two that are still unsigned.

On the Philadelphia Flyers …

Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly: The Flyers could still look at adding a scoring winger this offseason. They only have just over $1 million in salary cap space.

With the Flyers possibly starting the season with eight defenseman, they might have to move out a forward. Jordan Weal could be sent to the AHL.

If Brandon Manning plays 14 games this season, he would become eligible for the expansion draft next year. Andrew MacDonald and his $5 million cap hit will definitely be exposed.

Mark Streit and his $5.25 million cap hit has a no-trade clause, but he doesn’t have a no-movement clause. If sent to the AHL it would only be a $950,000 cap savings.

Nick Schultz could be moved if they need to make room for one of their young defenseman, though GM Ron Hextall has said multiple times that he likes Schultz’s leadership.

Manning is also an option to be sent to the minors if need be.

MacDonald heading to the AHL is again the most likely option.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

Ben Kuzma: Before signing with the Blue Jackets, the Canucks had shown some interest in Sam Gagner.

On the Anaheim Ducks …

James Mirtle: Stu Bickel will attend the Ducks training camp on a PTO. He played with their AHL team last year. Likely going to see a lot of players on PTOs again this year.
