NHL Rumors: New Jersey Devils And The Detroit Red Wings
New Jersey Devils P.A. Parenteau
On the New Jersey Devils …

Andrew Gross of The Record: The Devils play five games in eight days, and it will determine if GM Ray Shero will be a buyer or seller at the trade deadline. P.A. Parenteau is on a one-year deal and knows what could happen.

“No, I don’t,” Parenteau said Monday when asked whether he had a sense for the Devils’ plans for him. “I have a little bit of an idea, obviously. We’re not stupid. We know where we stand in the organization, but I feel like they’re pretty happy with what I’ve brought to the table this year. If it comes to an extension, I have no idea. I think the next couple of weeks are going to be huge when it comes to that.”

Parenteau hopes to remain with the Devils.

“I want to win games, and that’s the way I’m not going to get traded, the rumors aside,” Parenteau added. “If we win games, we won’t be making any moves. That’s pretty much what the mindset is for everyone here.”

On the Detroit Red Wings …

Ansar Khan of MLive: Red Wings GM Ken Holland has been gauging the interest of some of his players. The Wings now sit in the at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

“I’m looking at the standings, but at the same time I’m talking to people and seeing what their needs are.

“I’ll work the phones and if something makes sense, we’ll do it. But it’s not just a matter of me determining I’m going to be a seller because there’s got to be a buyer.”

Holland added they’ll do nothing or they will be selling.

“If you’re a seller, you’re only selling to about 10-12 teams. Half the teams might determine they’re either going to stand pat or they’re a seller as well.”

Thomas Vanek carries a $2.6 million cap hit and could fit under the cap for most teams. The Wings might be able to get a second round pick, or maybe a package of draft picks and a prospect.

Defenseman Brendan Smith and forward Steve Ott are other pending free agents that could be moved.
