NHL Rumors: Hanzal, Duchene and Red Wings
Martin Hanzal and Matt Duchene
On the Martin Hanzal …

Chris Hine: Coyotes center Martin Hanzel said that he’s open to a trade, but he want to be a center wherever he’s traded.

Chris Hine: Hanzal: “I’ve been playing center all my life so I don’t know if I’d be OK playing wing.”

On Matt Duchene …

Jimmy Murphy: Based on talk from yesterday, the Philadelphia Flyers, Nashville Predators and may be the Arizona Coyotes are in on Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene.

On the Detroit Red Wings …

Greg Krupa of the Detroit News: The Red Wings have three young assets that need to be protected – Anthony Mantha, Dylan Larkin and Andreas Athanasiou. They shouldn’t be traded unless the offer is big. They shouldn’t trade Henrik Zetterberg or Niklas Kronwall.

Defenseman Mike Green could net them a big return, but if they don’t get a big offer, they should keep him. He has a year left at $6 million.

The Wings should get some draft picks for Thomas Vanek, Brendan Smith and Steve Ott.

Vanek should be able to net them a good pick and may be more. Vanek is likely looking for a big deal on his next contract, and the Wings need to control their salary cap space.

The Wings will talk to Smith to see what he’s looking for in a new deal. He could be a 3rd pairing option for someone, maybe a 2nd pairing fill-in.

Rental price for Ott or Drew Miller won’t be a lot if moved.

The Wings can only protect one goaltender in the expansion draft and it should be 25-year old Petr Mrazek. They might be able to get something for Jimmy Howard. If the get a solid offer Mrazek, they could consider trading him. They should expose Jared Coreau.

Gustav Nyquist could be traded before his no-trade clause kicks in. Tomas Tatar could also be moved.

Justin Abdelkader, Jonathan Ericsson and Darren Helm have no-trade clauses. Frans Nielsen has a no-movement clause.
