NHL Rumors: Penguins, Sabres, Maple Leafs and Hurricanes
Marc-Andre Fleury and Peter Holland

On the Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs …

TSN Insider Trading: Pierre LeBrun: Think the Pittsburgh Penguins could move Marc-Andre Fleury before the March 1st trade deadline. Teams will step up and contact the Penguins. The Penguins don’t want to expose Matt Murray in the expansion draft. Fleury has a no-movement clause.

Bob McKenzie: The Buffalo Sabres are not close to trading Evander Kane, but they do appear willing to move him if they get the right defenseman in return. The Vancouver Canucks backed away last week and the New York Islanders have kicked tires.

Darren Dreger: The Toronto Maple Leafs have Peter Holland on the trade market. They are looking for a shut down defenseman.

Darren Dreger: The NHLPA are considering the NHL’s Olympic CBA extension proposal and are expected to have a decision before the Board of Governor’s meeting at the start of December.

On the Carolina Hurricanes and Ryan Murphy ….

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Darren Dreger on TSN 1040 on Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Ryan Murphy being in the rumor mill.

“They’re very serious. He’s in play. He’s on the block, there’s no question,” said Dreger. “I was told earlier today there are at least three teams interested in Ryan Murphy.”

The Hurricanes have Murphy playing in the AHL. Murphy has a history of being injured.

“But because of his age and a right-shot D, there’s tremendous upside – I feel – in Ryan Murphy. I’m surprised nobody has jumped at him at this point. His name has been lingering out there for several months, in fact, but more of late he’s become legitimate trade bait.

“So I don’t see anything imminent, but as I said – I checked in this morning and I know there are at least three teams that are interested in the moment.”

Dreger doesn’t know if the Canucks are interested in Murphy, but adds that he thinks another Western Conference team is.
