NHL Rumors: Las Vegas, Canucks, Avs, and Who Could Retire After Season
Jaromir Jagr and Jiri Hudler
On Las Vegas …

Ken Boehlke of the Sin Bin: On Sportsbook Radio yesterday, Bill Foley confirmed that they have narrowed the list of potential team names down to four.

“The team name is one of those four. It’s not Black Knights, that’s been sort of vetted and there were too many objections from my alma mater and then some push-back from some other people so we’ve put that one aside. But the name is going to have that kind of you know (K)Nights somewhere in some fashion some way. Or, there’s one particular animal… a bird, that we have available to us that we might use.”

Boehlke thinks the potential names could be Silver Knights, Neon Knights, Nights, and Peregrines.

With Peregrines, Foley told Boehlke that “there are some concerns with the pronunciation.”

Sin Bin: There won’t be an announcement on the team name until September or so according to Foley.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

TSN Vancouver 1040: Radim Vrbata and Jiri Hudler could be free agent options for the Canucks according to Vancouver Province writer Jason Botchford.

On players who could retire …

Jared Clinton of The Hockey News: Five players who could retire after this season: Jaromir Jagr (44), Jarome Iginla (39), Shane Doan (39), Andrei Markov (37) and Mark Streit (38).

On the Colorado Avalanche …

Mike Chambers of the Denver Post: Joe Colborne signed a two-year, $5 million deal with the Avalanche on July 1st. Colborne is figuring he’ll get a shot on their top two lines.

“They’ve mentioned they want me to play with some of their skill guys and bring a size and a net presence and puck control,” Colborne said of the Avs. “That’s what I was given the opportunity down the stretch at Calgary and I had some really good results. Hopefully I can pick up where I left off.”
