NHL Rumors: Kings, Sabres, Penguins and the AHL
Marc-Andre Fleury of the Pittsburgh Penguins
On the Toronto Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings and Buffalo Sabres …

Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News: Wonder if the Toronto Maple Leafs will take a run at Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk.

The Los Angeles Kings are scouting almost every Buffalo Sabres game lately, and the Sabres have had a scout at almost every Kings game lately. The Kings could use a scorer like Evander Kane.

On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Jonathan Bombulie of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review: Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury hasn’t played since January 14th. Matt Murray has started the Penguins past six games. GM Jim Rutherford will have to decide on their goaltending situation before the expansion draft in June, or possibly before the trade deadline.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen. I don’t know if anything will happen,” Fleury said. “I’ll just try to enjoy my days here and be ready when I have a chance to play. There’s still a lot of hockey to play before that deadline. I guess we’ll see.”

Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: (chat) With Matt Murray taking over the starting position and their goalie of the future, the Penguins will do whatever they can to not lose him in the expansion draft. Marc-Andre Fleury has a limited no-trade clause. There has been no indication that the Penguins are shopping Fleury. Molinari thinks there are enough teams that could use an upgrade in net and that there should be a market for him.

On the AHL …

Tony Androckitis: AHL President and CEO of the AHL David Andrews: The AHL hasn’t received any expansion applications, but doesn’t rule out having 31 teams next season.

Tony Androckitis: Andrews: Reports of a team in Kansas City are not accurate and they are “not in play.”

Tony Androckitis: Andrews: There haven’t been any discussions about moving Bridgeport to the Nassau Colisuem.

Tony Androckitis: Andrews: There haven’t been any discussions with the Vancouver Canucks about moving their AHL out of Utica.
