NHL Rumors: Alzner, Shattenkirk, Lightning and Devils
The New Jersey Devils may have a leg up on the Tampa Bay Lightning for Kevin Shattenkirk
On Karl Alzner

Darren Dreger: The Winnipeg Jets and Montreal Canadiens have a strong interest in free agent defenseman Karl Alzner and indications are that they’ve spoken with him.

Chris Nichols: Darren Dreger on TSN 1290: “I think Karl Alzner is going to expect a six-year term” as a UFA. Not sure about dollar amount.

On the Tampa Bay Lightning …

Joe Smith: As already been reported, the Lightning have spoken with free agent Kevin Shattenkirk. They weren’t among the early teams to speak with Karl Alzner and Cody Franson.

Joe Smith: Would think that free agent defenseman Michael Stone would be a good fit for the Ligthning.

On the Kevin Shattenkirk …

David Pagnotta: Kevin Shattenkirk is obviously getting lost of interest with the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils, Vegas Golden Knights and Tampa Bay Lightning believed to be among the teams that have reached out to him. Shattenkirk was going over his options yesterday.

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Pierre LeBrun was on TSN 1040 and was asked if he thinks Kevin Shattenkirk will be playing for the Tampa Bay Lightning next season. LeBrun notes that is possible, but another team may be ahead of the.

“But I have a feeling that New Jersey will probably have the biggest bid, is my guess. The Devils have the most cap room. Shattenkirk is from the area. Certainly the Devils have a hole there on that side.

“So anything is possible, you’re right. Tampa showed interest in a trade for Shattenkirk last year, so you never know. But I don’t know that – I mean listen, they still haven’t re-signed Tyler Johnson and Ondrej Palat, so the cap is always an issue these days with Tampa.

“So would they show interest? It wouldn’t shock me. But they certainly, I don’t think, could outbid some other teams that have more cap room.”
