NHL Rumors: Coaches, GM Meetings, Bruins, Lightning and More
Jonathan Drouin

Garrioch roundup …

Bruce Garrioch of Ottawa Sun: There have been three coaching changes this season, but there could be some more depending on playoff performances. Unsuccessful playoff runs could have Bruce Boudreau, Ken Hitchcock and Jack Capuano on the hot seat. Teams could line up for Boudreau if the Ducks fire him.

Sharks GM Doug Wilson could be on the hot seat depending on how their season ends.

GMs will talk about the expansion draft and video review at the GM meetings. They will also talk about the draft lottery, with a group to push for limiting the number of times a team can win the lottery.

One team called the Bruins about Zdeno Chara before the deadline. The Bruins weren’t going to move him as they know what he means to the team.

Jonathan Drouin returning to the Syracuse Crunch raises his value on the trade market. Drouin hasn’t rescinded his trade request. It’s believed that Lightning GM Steve Yzerman will trade Drouin at the draft, and there will be lots of interest. It is believed that the Canadiens, Senators and Wild talked to the Lightning, but were unable to find a fit. The asking price for the Senators was Cody Ceci. The asking price for the Wild was Matt Dumba.

One executive was surprised the Canucks didn’t trade Dan Hamhuis at the deadline. The Capitals, Bruins, Blackhawks and Stars showed interest in Hamhuis.

Sportsnet’s Headlines …

Damien Cox: During the NHL GM meetings this week, one of the things they will be talking about is allowing hand passes in the offensive zone. It might help create more goals.

Elliotte Friedman: Teams are watching college free agent defenseman Casey Nelson of Minnesota State, though he’s told teams that the “plan right now” is to remain in school.
