Arthur Staples of Newsday: The Islanders will likely offer John Tavares an eight-year deal worth upwards of $10 million a year. If Tavares tells GM Garth Snow that he’s not interested in signing this offseason, Snow will have to listen to trade offers for Tavares. They can’t risk losing him for nothing.

On the Columbus Blue Jackets …

Aaron Portzline: Have been told by Dan Milstein, Vladislav Gavrikov agent that Gavrikov hasn’t signed a KHL contract and that he’s still a free agent.

Aaron Portzline: Two KHL teams and the Blue Jackets are interested in signing Gavrikov. Milstein said he won’t sign anywhere until after the World Championships.

Aaron Portzline: The Blue Jackets offer for Gavrikov remains on the table. The two KHL teams could be being played off each other, the Blue Jackets could be being used as threat.

On the Calgary Flames …

Eric Francis: Flames fans don’t need to worry over the missing out on Ben Bishop after the Stars acquired his rights. He will be too expensive for the Flames and will be looking for a long-term deal.

Eric Francis: Flames should be looking for a goalie on a short-term deal, giving their prospects a few more years to get ready for the NHL.

On the St. Louis Blues …

Jeremy Rutherford: GM Doug Armstrong said the Blues could have trade the rights to Vladimir Sobotka for a 2nd round pick multiple times but said he’s glad he kept him.

Jeremy Rutherford: Armstrong said he’s like to Colton Parayko signed to a long-term contract but he wants to see what Parayko would be comfortable with.

Andy Strickland: Armstrong said a Parayko contract will get down before the first week of August.

Jeremy Rutherford: Armstrong said that upgrading down the middle will be difficult, but they will explore their options.
