Lance Hornby: Brendan Shanahan confirmed their meeting with Vesey yesterday, saying that it went well. He didn’t comment on Auton Matthews involvement. Shanahan is confident that they can fix their salary cap issues if they are able to sign Vesey – they can make other moves.

Damian Cox: “Leafs, including Auston Matthews, made the hard sell on Jimmy Vesey yday. They’re hopeful….but they were hopeful on Steven Stamkos, too. Even the Leafs, btw, aren’t inclined to think Vesey is predisposed to them bc his dad and brother are in the organization.”

Chris Botta: Have been told that the Islanders are in contention for Vesey. They would be close to home and would be a good fit with their young forwards.

Chip Alexander: The Hurricanes are among the teams that are interested in Vesey and GM Ron Francis has been in contact with Vesey’s agent.

Aaron Portzline: The Blue Jackets showed interest in Vesey, but not seen as being in contention by most people. Vesey’s agent did listen to what they had to say.

Ansar Khan of MLive: The Red Wings made their pitch to Vesey’s camp, but they are not one of the teams on his short list. Vesey wants to play closer to his home in Boston.

“We did our best,” Red Wings assistant general manager Ryan Martin said. “We spoke to his agent about depth and opportunity. He said he preferred to play closer to home.”
