NHL Rumors II: Wild, Sens, Hawks, Caps, Selanne and Pens
  • Craig Custance of ESPN: (mailbag) The health of Niklas Backstrom and Josh Harding may leave Darcy Kuemper as their number one. A bit of risk, but carried the team for stretches last season.

Custance thinks the Senators waited too long to trade Jason Spezza. Moving him at the deadline would have been the best.

Custance thinks the Blackhawks would like to move Kris Versteeg to gain some cap space, but that isn’t easy. Nick Leddy could be an option, he has value and will be getting expensive to keep.  They could move him for the right price.

If the Senators aren’t able to lock up Bobby Ryan and are out of the playoff race, Ryan could be one of the better players that could be available at the trade deadline.

There is no urgency for the Capitals to trade defenseman Mike Green. If they are offered the right deal for him though, they should act on it. The Red Wings are a natural fit and have the assets to make it happen.

  • Juha Hiitela: Sources saying that Jokerit (Finnish team in the KHL) have offered Teemu Selanne $10 million US to play next season. Have had also offered him $5 million just to play home games.
  • Will DePaoli of Inside Pittsburgh Sports: DePaoli thinks that Brandon Sutter’s best value to the Penguins could be as a trade chip. DePaoli adds that the Penguins may have made a mistake last July when they pulled a verbal offer to Clarke MacArthur off the table once they signed Rob Scuderi.
  • Adam Vingan: Contract between the Capitals and RFA defenseman Cam Schilling are ongoing, “nothing is imminent,” according to his agent.
