NHL Rumors: Erik Karlsson – Islanders, Leafs, Rangers, Stars and Red Wings
The Ottawa Senators could consider trading Erik Karlsson at some point

On the Ottawa Senators, New York Islanders, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Dallas Stars and Detroit Red Wings …

Brett Cyrgalis of the NY Post: The New York Islanders have plenty of assets and could use a top-end, right-handed defenseman. Erik Karlsson?

Karlsson has a year left on his contract at a $6.5 million salary cap hit. Would the Islanders be on Karlsson’s no-trade list?

The Islanders have two first round picks and two second round picks this year. They also have some well-regarded prospects in their system. Mathew Barzal is a non-starter for the Islanders.

wonders if Josh Ho-Sang would interest the Senators.

The Islanders would need to send some salary in any deal.

Would the Senators go for Ho-Sang, Jaroslav Halak, a first and second round pick?

Kevin Allen of USA Today: It’s possible that Erik Karlsson could get a seven-year deal at $12 million per season if he were to go to the open market in 2019.

The Senators have RFAs Mark Stone and Cody Ceci to deal with this offseason, and Derick Brassard and Matt Duchene next offseason. Dion Phaneuf and Bobby Ryan tie up over $14 million.

More teams may be involved in trade talks if looking to deal Karlsson in the offseason, but trading for him before the deadline would give two playoff runs.

Karlsson does have the 10-team no-trade list. He’d likely be okay with big markets like Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers, but teams like the Arizona Coyotes or Buffalo Sabres.

The Senators would likely be looking to get a young defenseman, a young center, a first-round draft pick, a second-round draft pick and another prospect.

The Senators would likely ask the Maple Leafs for Timothy Liljegren, William Nylander, draft picks and another prospect.

When looking at the Rangers, the Sens would likely ask for a package including Brady Skjei and Lias Andersson.

The asking price for the Dallas Stars could include Miro Heiskanen and Radek Faksa.

Allen thinks that Karlsson will end up being traded next season and will test free agency.

If he goes to the open market, could expect the Detroit Red Wings to make a huge offer to him. The Rangers, Maple Leafs, Bruins and may be the Devils could be interested.
