“(Friday) they the put the skates on to see how it felt very lightly on the ice and they felt he was able to get dressed and be with the boys this morning. Basically, this is the second step, but there’s quite a few steps before we get to him playing so we don’t want him to get too excited.”

Karlson won’t skate today but is expected to be on the ice on Monday.

On the Washington Capitals …

JJ Regan: The NHL suspended Tom Wilson for two preseason games for his hit on Robert Thomas.

JJ Regan: Though it’s only two preseason games, Wilson will now qualify as a repeat offender the next time the NHL considers suspended him.
