NHL Rumors: Oilers, Avalanche and Islanders
The Colorado Avalanche could move Tyson Barrie and Matt Duchene this offseason
On the Edmonton Oilers, Colorado Avalanche and New York Islanders …

TSN Insider Trading: Darren Dreger: There are ongoing discussion with the Edmonton Oilers and the camps for Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. There was the sense that McDavid would get done first and then Draisaitl but that may not be the case anymore. They could get done at the same time. Is it for eight years or for five years?

Bob McKenzie: McDavid might be willing to give them a bit of hometown discount like Sidney Crosby did with the Penguins.

Darren Dreger: There are offers on the table for Jordan Eberle but there isn’t anything that GM Peter Chiarelli is willing to accept just yet. Eberle has two years left at $6 million and “it sounds like he’ll definitely get traded.”

Bob McKenzie: Matt Duchene also has a couple years left on his deal at $6 million. He is probably the player to most likely get traded this offseason. The Avalanche didn’t get anything they liked at the trade deadline but expects them to find they like this offseason. Think that both the player and team are looking for a fresh start.

Darren Dreger: The New York Islanders may want to only protect three defensemen for the expansion draft and that could make defenseman Travis Hamonic available in the trade. The Islanders want a top-six forward in return.

Darren Dreger: Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie could also be available. If the Avs moved Duchene and got a defenseman back, they could move Barrie for a high pick or a combinations of picks and prospects.

Bob McKenzie: There are some players and agents who are concerned with what is going on internally with Don Fehr and NHLPA – about HRR, the Olympics, escrow, World Cup of hockey profits and the CBA opening up in a few years. Chris Chelios could become an ombudsman within the NHLPA.
