NHL Rumors: Kings, Flames and Avalanche
Tyson Barrie and Dustin Brown
On the Los Angeles Kings …

Frank Seravalli: Hearing that Dustin Brown has been told that he won’t be their captain next season as they want to go in a different direction.

Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider: The Kings were not responding to Seravalli’s report on Brown and the captaincy.

Dennis Bernstein: A Brown buyout would cost to much and there wouldn’t be any trade partners at the moment. He could be an expansion selection if there is a draft after next season.

Dennis Bernstein: Though it was mentioned on the radio that Milan Lucic may not be re-signing with the Kings, have also heard that he hopes to re-sign and that contract talks have not broken down.

Dennis Bernstein: The Kings were interested in Dan Hamhuis at the trade deadline, so would assume that they would be interested in him on July 1st.

On the Calgary Flames …

Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun: The Flames have interviewed Randy Carlyle twice for their vacant head coaching position.

On the Colorado Avalanche …

David Staples of the Edmonton Journal:  Going from Terry Frei and Mike Chambers of the Denver Post talking about the Avalanche potentially trading defenseman Tyson Barrie after Elliotte Friedman’s reported the trade rumor. Frei notes that he thinks that Patrick Roy believes that Barrie is a fifth defenseman and power play specialist. Frei also thinks that Roy really wants a big, strong defense. Frei:

“I think Patrick Roy really wants to get a big, strong defence. I think he really believes that Tyson Barrie should be at best a fifth defenceman and a power play specialist, so I think they will look at this contract negotiation and potential arbitration and say, ‘This is going to skew our salary structure for a guy we’re not really enamoured of.’ ”

Chambers doesn’t think it’s a good idea to move the 24-year old defenseman and that such a move could hurt them, though there is the unknown of what they might get in return for Barrie.

Frei thinks they will end up keeping him, maybe on a three year deal at $4.8 million per season. Chambers thinks a two year deal makes more sense.

Staples notes that Barrie has the same agent as former Avalanche forward Ryan O’Reilly. Staples wonders if the Avs would be interested in Griffin Reinhart in a potential package for Barrie?
