NHL Rumors: Red Wings, Devils, Stars and Coyotes
Shane Doan and Cory Schneider
On the Detroit Red Wings …

The Fourth Period: Red Wings GM Ken Holland is receiving calls on some of their player, with one source saying Thomas Vanek is getting a fair bit on interest. If the Red Wings drop out of the race, they could move him and he should net them a solid return.

Other pending free agents that the Wings could decide to move include Brendan Smith, Drew Miller and Steve Ott.

On the New Jersey Devils …

Larry Brooks of the NY Post: The NJ Devils have been a big disappointment this season. They don’t really have any marketable assets on their current roster. Would they consider moving Cory Schneider? He does have a no-trade clause, but might welcome a move to a team with a more immediate future.

What would the Devils be able to get from the Dallas Stars for Schneider? They would have take back either Kari Lehtonen or Antti Niemi in a deal.

On the Arizona Coyotes …

Daniel Goffenberg of Sportsnet: Hockey Night in Canada’s Headlines last night, Elliott Friedman said that Arizona Coyotes forward Shane Doan could be playing for another organization by the trade deadline.

“ are looking at it like, ‘You know, he’s not going to be here forever, we have to see who else can be the leaders of the team, maybe we might have to move on but we want to put Shane Doan in a situation where he’d be happy,’ ” said Friedman during Saturday’s Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada. “And I am under the impression that if they go to Shane Doan with a situation where they have a chance to win, he will be willing to consider waiving his no-trade clause.

“But they know their fans, and they know Doan aren’t going to be happy unless it’s a good situation for him.”
