NHL Rumors: Senators, Canucks and Flames
Dan Hamhuis against the Ottawa Senators

On the Ottawa Senators …

  • Lisa Wallace of The Globe and Mail: If the Senators fall out of the playoff race by the trade deadline, they could look to move Chris Neil, Patrick Wiercioch and Shane Prince.
  • Darren Dreger: Though nothing is imminent, contract extension talks between the Senators and Chris Neil are ongoing. There is mutual interest. Neil would be playing his 1,000th game as a Senator next year.
  • Bruce Garrioch: The Senators have shopped, and are getting interest in Patrick Wiercioch.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

  • Jay Janower: Dan Hamhuis said that he nor his agent has been asked to waive his no trade clause. He did say that he and his family are discussing their options.

On the Calgary Flames …

  • Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun: Flames GM Brad Treliving on the approaching trade deadline.

“For us, we’ve got a plan that we would like to execute, but it takes two to tango,” said Flames GM Brad Treliving, whose squad is 10 points back in the wildcard derby and even further adrift in the Pacific Division playoff picture.

“So we’ve done a lot of homework leading up to this, and we’ll see where it gets to.

“I don’t make a lot of bold predictions of what is or isn’t going to happen, but we’re trying to make our team better.

“We’re trying to make our organization better. We’ll see …

“I don’t expect there to be 50 deals out the door. We’re not looking to shoot a bunch of people here, but we’re looking to see if we can make ourselves better.”

Wes Gilbertson: Kris Russell on if it’s possible that he could remain with the Flames after the deadline.

“I hope so. Anything is possible. It’s out of my control. I just want to come every day, work as hard as I can and help this team. Sometimes, like I said, it’s just out of your control. You just come to work every day and take it from there.”
