NHL Rumors: Girardi, Lightning, Red Wings, Thornton and Marleau
The Tampa Bay Lightning and Detroit Red Wings are interested in Dan Girardi

On the Dan Girardi …

E.J. Hradek: Have heard that defenseman Dan Girardi could end up with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Steve Zipay: Girardi to the Lightning makes sense. Ryan Callahan and Girardi’s families are close, the Lightning are competitive and there are a couple ex-Rangers there.

Elliotte Friedman: Talk is the Lightning have shown interest in Girardi. We’ll see if it going anywhere in the next few days.

Craig Custance: The Red Wings are one of the several teams that have reached out to Girardi. There will be a good market for him.

On the Tampa Bay Lightning …

Joe Smith: The Lighting are expected to continue contract talks with RFAs Tyler Johnson and Ondrej Palat this week. They are still looking at UFAs.

Joe Smith: The Lightning are looking for a winger. they hadn’t shown interest in free agent winger Thomas Vanek. Would have to think that Justin Williams would be a good fit.

On Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau …

Craig Custance: It wouldn’t be a surprise if Joe Thornton plans on waiting to see if Patrick Marleau remains in San Jose before deciding what he wants to do. Nobody appreciates Marleau more than Thornton.

Pierre LeBrun: Think that Thornton wants to have Marleau there if he stays in San Jose.

Craig Custance: There is lots of interest in Marleau including the Maple Leafs, Ducks, Rangers, Sharks, Hurricanes, Predators and Kings.

Jon Rosen: Have basically expected Thornton to re-sign with the Sharks. Source saying that the Kings have made it “priority” to try and sign Thornton.

Jon Rosen: The Kings are really making a push for Thornton as they are looking for players that are good at distributing the puck into dangers areas. Thornton has been one best passers of his generation and it’s something the Kings want to add.
