Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: No trades were made at the GM meetings on Friday, but some groundwork was likely laid for future deals. One GM said that a lot of teams are talking.

The Coyotes are pretty much open to talking about any player on their roster. Forward Brad Richardson will be a trade deadline rental. Teams have called on Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

“They’ve got to be getting a lot of calls, but I’m not sure what the thought process is there,” one league executive said. “I  can assure what’s happening there was not their plan. You don’t make those deals in the summer if you plan on picking the top three.”

The Florida Panthers are looking for a winger.

The Calgary Flames are looking for a bottom-six winger.

New York Islanders defenseman Calvin de Haan is a pending unrestricted free agent, and there haven’t been any contract extension talks. There would be some talks before they would decide to move him. The Islanders main priority is to re-sign John Tavares.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Columbus Blue Jackets are looking for a forward.

Montreal Canadiens forward Alex Galchenyuk continues to have his name out there. Several teams are believed to have called the Canadiens about Galchenyuk. GM Marc Bergevin is on the hot and is looking to make a move to shake up his team.

Teams are calling the Winnipeg Jets looking for a forward. Depending on what the return is, the Jets could be willing to move Joel Armia, Andrew Copp, and Shawn Matthias. Teams are also calling the Jets about defenseman Jacob Trouba, but they aren’t interested in trading him.
