NHL Rumors: Canucks, Kings and Islanders
J-F Berube and Jaroslav Halak of the New York Islanders
On the Vancouver Canucks …

Elliotte Friedman: Hearing that the Canucks are interested in Ralph Krueger. Is he interested in leaving Southampton FC though?

Elliotte Friedman: Krueger in a email commenting on the Canucks interest: “I have had some interesting chats these past weeks, but my focus remains fully on the Saints for now.”

On the Los Angeles Kings …

John Hoven: Sources saying the Kings are interested in University of Denver’s coach Jim Montgomery.

On the New York Islanders …

Arthur Staple of Newsday: Goaltender Jarslav Halak will be left unprotected for the expansion draft but likely won’t be claimed. He has a year left on his deal with a $4.5 million cap hit.

“I love the guys over here. I love to play here. If that’s the case I’m committed to be 100 percent ready and work hard. If it’s somewhere else, that’s not up to me. Wherever I am, if I’m here, I’ll try to do my best here.”

J-F Berube is a Group 6 free agent and could be ready to move on from the Islanders.

“I’m a UFA so I need to go out and see what’s available, what’s the best fit for me,” he said. “I love the group here, I loved my experience outside of the games. This is a really good group and I was happy to be part of it. We’ll see what’s out there.

“It’s a little early to make a decision and say which way I would go. I’m more than willing to come back if I have a bigger role on the team. I’ve done this for two years and I can’t do it for a third, it would really hurt my development. It’s a big summer to go back to basics and try to move my game forward as much as I can.”

The Islanders have some good goalie prospects in the system but it shouldn’t be a surprise if Thomas Greiss and Jaroslav Halak are their goaltending duo next season.
