NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens, Calgary Flames and Arizona Coyotes
Chad Johnson could end up back with the Calgary Flames as a free agent
On the Montreal Canadiens …

Darren Dreger: Alex Galchenyuk is likely going to be traded, but contract talks with the Canadiens continue.

David Pagnotta: Contract talks between the Montreal Canadiens and Alex Galchenyuk are ongoing. If the Canadiens receive an offer with view as worthwhile, they’ll listen, but they also want to re-sign him.

On the Calgary Flames …

Pat Steinberg: (Hickey included in Mike Smith trade) Sounding like the Flames didn’t feel great about their chances of getting Brandon Hickey signed before he returns to college for his final season at BU.

John Shannon: Don’t be surprised if recently traded Chad Johnson heads back to Calgary as a free agent on July 1st.

On the Arizona Coyotes

Craig Morgan of Arizona Sports: The Coyotes traded Mike Smith yesterday. They have Louis Domingue and rights to UFA Chad Johnson were acquired from the Flames in the Smith trade.

Coyotes GM John Chayka will be looking for a number one goalie – going over unprotected lists and looking at who could be available in free agency.

“I think there’s a lot of options out there and it’s something we’re very active in right now,” Chayka said.

Chayka is also hoping to improve their blueline – especially on the right side – and their forward group. The Coyotes do have plenty of cap space that they could use to their advantage.

Contracts like David Clarkson in Columbus and Nathan Horton in Toronto could be options to acquire a few more assets.
