On the Calgary Flames …

Elliotte Friedman: (11:25 am) Flames extended Sean Monahan for seven years at around Nathan MacKinnon’s salary cap hit – $6.3 million.

Dean Molberg: (11 am) “Expect a Sean Monahan press conference this afternoon as a contract between he and the has been reached.”

Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun: Source said that the Flames and RFA center Sean Monahan will likely have a long-term deal done before the World Cup of Hockey.

“I’d say sooner than later,” said Morris.

“The process had a lot of general discussions for a long time but it started to pick up steam at the draft. And still, at that time I believe other than (Florida’s Aleksander) Barkov nobody was signed then. Was Calgary waiting for the market to fill in? That would be for them to speak on.”

On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Jason Mackey: Penguins GM Jim Rutherford said that contract extension talks haven’t started with defenseman Trevor Daley or forward Nick Bonino.

Jason MacKey: GM Rutherford said that Derrick Pouliot “will be in the mix” for a top-six spot. When asked if they were done, Rutherford said  “Other than Vesey, we’re not looking to do anything.”
