NHL Rumors: Flames, Lightning, Penguins and the Trade Market
Ben Bishop to the Calgary Flames rumors this morning
On the Calgary Flames and the Tampa Bay Lightning …

Kevin O’Donnell: “Reports out of Canada have a deal in the works for the #Lightning to trade Ben Bishop to the Calgary Flames.”

Joe Smith: There will be interest in Ben Bishop if they Lightning make him available. He has a partial no-movement clause and this camp says that things are all “quiet” so far.

Frank Seravalli: Bishop’s agent said that he hasn’t been approached by the Lightning about waiving his no-movement clause.

Frank Seravalli: The Lightning don’t have to trade Bishop in fear of an expansion draft as this contract expires at the end of next season.

On the Calgary Flames and the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun: Penguins GM Jim Rutherford is apparently asking the Calgary Flames for their first round pick, sixth overall, for goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. That is not going to happen. The Flames are still interested in him.

Brian Elliott or James Reimer could be options for the Flames.

The Flames were interested in Frederik Andersen before he was dealt to the Maple Leafs. The Flames had their No. 35 pick in play for Andersen. The Ducks weren’t that interested in trading Andersen within their division.

The Flames would be okay with sending the Penguins a mid-prospect and one of their second round picks this year – maybe even a second round pick in each of the next two years.

Ben Bishop could be a pipe dream for the Flames. Bishop would be looking for $7 or $8 million on a new deal after next season.

On the trade market …

James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail: What could make this a busying two weeks according to some executives.

1. The salary cap isn’t expected to rise much.
2. The expansion draft in 2017.
3. Steven Stamkos still doesn’t have a contract

The New York Rangers are very active right now and are looking at major changes. Derek Stepan and his remaining five years at $6.5 million is out there, with a team like the Coyotes having the cap space.

The Coyotes have Martin Hanzal with one year left at $3.1 million who might be moved. The Coyotes are still the most likely landing spot for Pavel Datsyuk‘s rights.

Dallas Stars UFA Jason Demers could be looking for around $5.5 million a year.

The Bruins and Sabres could be after Kevin Shattenkirk. The Blues are likely wanting to send him to the East.

The Sabres could be looking to move Zach Bogosian.

Teams are still watching the Jets and Jacob Trouba.

The Capitals could have decisions to make with Dmitry Orlov as he could be lost in an expansion draft next year
