NHL Rumors: Buffalo Sabres and the New York Rangers
Buffalo Sabres Evander Kane awaits a trade.
On the Buffalo Sabres …

Mike Harrington of the Buffalo Sabres: Pending UFA Evander Kane knows a trade call is likely coming his way before the NHL trade deadline.

TSN has reported that the Sabres are looking for as many as four pieces for Kane, including a first-round pick.

The Sabres have let it be known that they’d be willing to retain salary to help increase the return.

Teams that might be interested in Kane include the Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues, New Jersey Devils, Los Angeles Kings, Nashville Predators, and the New York Islanders.

The Sabres haven’t spoken with Kane about a contract extension.

“Does it surprise me? Well, I’ve said many times nothing really surprises me,” Kane told The News. “This is all part of the business. Both sides. We’re in different situations and I understand it all. One thing I’ve always said is that I’ve really really enjoyed my time here and will continue to do so for as long as I’m here. My focus is simply game to game, keeping the focus narrow.”

Kane said that if the Sabres did want to talk, he’d be open to listening.

On the New York Rangers …

Larry Brooks of the NY Post: Rangers forward Rick Nash on trade rumors.

“I can control my performance. I can’t control what decisions the front office might make. I have a family and two kids in preschool, so it’s not something you want to really think about even though you might have to, but it’s what we all signed up for.

“At the end of the day, it’s a business and management has to do what’s best for the organization. I’ve said before, I love it here and I want to be here. My focus is on helping the Rangers win and helping the young guys here progress.”

notes that if the Sabres believe they can get a first-round pick, a prospect, and a roster player, the Rangers should be able to get at least that, maybe more for Nash.
