NHL Rumors: Bruins, Senators, Red Wings and Shattenkirk
Kevin Shattenkirk could be the defenseman the Detroit Red Wings are looking for
On the Boston Bruins …

Jimmy Murphy: Was told that regardless of the outcome last night, the Bruins will publicly address their coaching situation today.

Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Coach Claude Julien after last night’s loss, when asked about his job security.

“Well, I’m not into shock-journalism,” said Julien in a prideful tone. “So I’ll stay away from that question if you don’t mind.”

The Bruins posted their media availability for the weekend, and Julien was included. It doesn’t appear that a move with Julien is imminent this weekend.

The coaches and players know some type of change could happen if they continue to struggle.

On defenseman and the trade market …

The Instigators: Darren Dreger on the lack of top-four defenseman on the trade market: “So few teams are willing to part with that in season.”

On the Ottawa Senators …

Don Brennan of the Ottawa Senators: The Senators shouldn’t trade forward Curtis Lazar. To add a rental player by the trade deadline like GM Pierre Dorion wants to, they will have to give up a prospect or two. Lazar is pointless in 23 games, so they would be selling low and not high like you’re suppose to.

Chris Kelly, Tom Pyatt and Chris Neil will be off the books after the season, so Lazar’s versatility and potentially inexpensive contract (pending RFA) would help fill a hole.

Dennis Bernstein: Think that the Senators could be a player in Coyotes Radim Vrbata. They have lots of salary cap space, and his bonus clauses won’t be an issue.

On the Detroit Red Wings …

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Darren Dreger on WGR 550 on the Detroit Red Wings. GM Kenny Holland has been trying the past three years to acquire a top-four defenseman, and he’s still trying.

“One thing I know for certain – this team is not going down without a fight, nor is Kenny Holland going to let them go down without a fight.

“We started this discussion talking about Kevin Shattenkirk. I think Detroit is as likely a possibility for that trade and extend as any team out there and I believe that Shattenkirk would love to play in Detroit.”
