The New York Rangers should look at Scott Stevens as a coach
On the Boston Bruins …

Mark Divver: The Bruins have been in contact with Auston Czarnik’s camp about a contract extension. The 25-year old is set be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

On the Carolina Hurricanes …

Pierre LeBrun: Have heard that the Hurricanes have recently spoken with John Ferguson Jr. (Bruins) about their GM position. They continue to talk to different people. They talked to Rick Dudley (Canadiens) about a different position, but it’s not sounding like there is a fit at this point.

On the Edmonton Oilers …

Jim Matheson: With the Oilers dropping a slot to No. 10 after the draft lottery on the weekend, it means that their pick will definitely be in play. They could use a puck-moving defenseman and a right-winger.

On the Montreal Canadiens …

Arpon Basu: Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin said that Rick Dudley is talking to the Carolina Hurricanes and couple other teams. Dudley’s contract is up in June and he is exploring his options. Bergevin said he’d like to have him back.

On the New York Rangers …

Larry Brooks of the NY Post: The Rangers need to find a coach that is able to teach and develop younger players defensive structure. thinks that if Scott Stevens isn’t a candidate for a head coaching position, then he should be for their defenseman coach.

The Rangers are keeping their coaching candidates list quiet. It’s known that they are considering David Quinn, Jim Montgomery and Scott Sandelin.

They are likely interested in Blue Jackets assistant coach Brad Shaw, but the Blue Jackets may not want to give permission. The Rangers tried to hire Shaw as an assistant two years ago but he chose the Blue Jackets instead.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

Rick Dhaliwal: The Canucks haven’t spoken with pending UFA Nic Dowd about his future with the team yet. The agent for pending UFA Darren Archibald’s has been told to wait until they deal with their RFAs first.

Rick Dhaliwal: UFA forward Jussi Jokinen won’t be offered a contract according to his agent Todd Diamond.
