NHL Rumors: Boston Bruins and the Vancouver Canucks
Brandon Carlo
On the Boston Bruins …

Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe: Bruins GM Don Sweeney doesn’t seem interested in trading any of their top prospects or high draft picks, especially for expensive rentals.

Forwards Rick Nash and Michael Grabner fit what the Bruins could use, but the prices are high. Ryan McDonagh would cost even more.

Brandon Carlo‘s name has come up on trade talk. Carlo’s future value varies depending on who you talk too – top-four guy to a bottom pairing.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province: Canucks GM Jim Benning on Saturday night.

“If we’re looking for a need here at the trade deadline, we’d like to add a big player,” stated Benning. “Maybe a forward with some physicality, who has the skill to make plays.”

If the Canucks can’t re-sign Erik Gudbranson, they need to move him for a high draft pick, same with Thomas Vanek.

Benning clarified his comments on Sunday.

“I should have clarified myself,” Benning said Sunday. “We want to do hockey trades. We have some UFAs to see if there’s interest in them and the point I was trying to make is there a hockey trade to be made for somebody with size and strength, who can play in our top nine?

“I don’t know if Pettersson can come in and make our team and we’ve got (Adam) Gaudette, (Jonathan) Dahlen and (Kole) Lind, so we have skill coming. If I can find a player to kind of supplement that, then I’ll look to do something like that.”

Canucks pending unrestricted free agents: Darren Archibald, Nic Dowd, Alex Biega, Joe LaBate, Jayson Megna, Richard Bachman and Patrick Wiercioch.

“With the conversations I’m having, teams want to do hockey trades to just change the look,” added Benning. “There might be (getting) a young player who plays a certain style of game or moving a skilled player for one who might be harder to play against.

“Those are the deals I’m interested in.”
