On the Chicago Blackhawks …

Scott Powers: Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman on how they may utilitize Marian Hossa‘s LTIR cap space: “I think on that one we’re just probably going to take a wait-and-see approach.”

On the Detroit Red Wings …

Helene St. James: Andreas Athanasiou‘s agent to the Detroit Free Press on contract talks: “having productive discussions that are positive indication of mutual desire to come to an agreement”

On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Jason Mackey: Penguins GM Jim Rutherford said that he’s eying three third-line centers. He thinks that one or two of them could become available before the start of the season.

On the Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins, and New Jersey Devils …

Jimmy Murphy: Have been told by several sources that the teams are calling the Bruins about center Ryan Spooner. Two teams that have inquired are the Penguins and Devils.

On the Columbus Blue Jackets …

Adam Jardy of the Columbus Dispatch: Columbus Blue Jackets restricted free agent Josh Anderson’s agent Darren Ferris on how contract negotiations are progressing.

“They aren’t going. The talks have stopped. Nothing is really happening, and now he’s evaluating his options.”

It’s not sounding like a deal won’t get done soon.

“They have to be fair with the player,” Ferris said. “They may have been in their mind, but nothing has indicated to me that there’s any resolution in the short term. Josh wants to be with his teammates and loves the fans in Columbus, but you can’t make too big of a sacrifice. They’re asking him to undervalue himself by a great degree.”

Aaron Portzline: No progress on a Josh Andersson – Blue Jackets deal yesterday. It’s looking like he won’t be in camp this weekend.

Chris Nichols: Darren Dreger yesterday morning: “probably an hour or so ago, and I’m told they’re not even close.”
