John Vogl of the Buffalo News: Sabres forward Jack Eichel will be out indefinitely with a high-ankle sprain. Coach Phil Housley said that Eichel could be out for four to six weeks. There are eight weeks left in the season.

On the Calgary Flames …

Elliotte Friedman: Goaltender Mike Smith had to be helped off the ice with 1.1 seconds left in the game.

Kristen Anderson: Coach Glen Gulutzan on Smith’s injury: “It’s tough, you never want to see it (happen). But we’ll deal with it when we know exactly what we’re dealing with. It would be a huge blow for our team.”

On the Colorado Avalanche …

Nick Veronica of the Denver Post: Forward Nathan MacKinnon is skating in Colorado and he’s getting close to returning.

“He’s getting close,” Bednar said. “Two weeks on Tuesday. Yeah, he’s getting close. We’ll take a look at him when we get back. We’ve been gone for a little but he’s been skating, he’s feeling better every day, so hoping he can get in shortly after that.”

Forward Blake Comeau and his lower-body injury will be re-evaluated today.

NHL Player Safety: The NHL has suspended Kings forward Dustin Brown one game for kneeing Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev.
