Some thoughts from the media ..

Bob McKenzie: “Original deal was expected to be $13.25M but hearing McDavid wasn’t comfortable with the number and may have insisted on lowering it…”

Cap Friendly: “W/ a contract value of $100M, McDavid is the 5th player to reach a 9 figure contract Ovechkin $124M Weber $110M Crosby $104M Kovalchuk $100M”

Cap Freindly: “While McDavids contract is 8 years in length, all of the other contracts with a value of $100M or greater ranged in length from 12-15 years”

Elliotte Freidman: “McDavid number is 8x$12.5. The number dropped by $750K/year after news got out last week.”

Eric Engels: “Have to wonder if rumoured $13.25M influenced Price negotiation and if Price signing influenced McDavid settlement.”

Mike Kelly: “McDavid signs 8-years, $12.5M / year. Number varied throughout negotiation from $13-$14M / year, he took less.”

David Pagnotta: “My understanding is it was McDavid who was willing to sign a lower AAV, to help allocate $ elsewhere on the team. Oilers came in hot.”
