The Buffalo Sabres and Jack Eichel agree on eight-year, $80 million extension
On the Buffalo Sabres …

Darren Dreger: The Buffalo Sabres have signed Jack Eichel to an eight-year deal at a salary cap of $10 million a season.

John Wawrow: Eichel agent tells the AP that Eichel took less money to allow the Sabres more freedom under the salary cap to make more moves.

John Wawrow: Eichel was adamant that he would play out the season without a contract extension, but he had a change of heart yesterday.

Mike Kelly: “I said in January, Eichel and impact team performance more than any other forwards in the NHL. Stand by it and think there will more evidence to support thaMcDavid t by the end of this season.”

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

Chris Johnston: The NHL independently examined injury Maple Leafs Joffrey Lupul, and he failed their physical as well. The Leafs are now allowed to place Lupul and his $5.25 million salary cap hit on the LTIR. It is the final year of Lupul’s five-year, $26.25 million deal.
