NHL Injuries: Wings, Bruins, Blues, Jets, Lightning, Avs and Sabres
Zdeno Chara and Jack Eichel
On the Detroit Red Wings …

Ansar Khan of MLive: Defenseman Brendan Smith and forward Tyler Bertuzzi left Saturday’s games early and will be undergoing tests.

“We know they are out a bit,” Holland said. “Not sure how long.”

It looked like Smith injured his right knee and Bertuzzi his left foot/leg. Bertuzzi left the arena in a boot and on crutches.

The Red Wings are already without defenseman Alexey Marchenko due to an upper-body injury.

Tomas Jurco might be ready to return tomorrow.

On the Boston Bruins …

Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Defenseman Zdeno Chara skated by himself yesterday. He’s missed their past three games with a lower-body injury. He’s still listed as day-to-day, with no timetable given.

Boston Bruins: Defenseman John-Michael Liles left yesterday’s game early with an upper-body injury.

On the St. Louis Blues …

Jeremy Rutherford: Alex Steen practiced yesterday but coach Ken Hitchcock said he isn’t ready to return just yet.

On the Winnipeg Jets …

Ken Wiebe: Coach Paul Maurice said that forward Nic Petan is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

On the Tampa Bay Lightning …

Joe Smith: Coach Jon Cooper didn’t offer an update on Ondrej Palat‘s injury.

On the Colorado Avalanche …

Ron Knabenbauer: Semyon Varlamov missed Saturday’s game with an upper-body injury. Varlamov returned to practice yesterday.

“I’ve been pretty sore lately, so we took one game off,” Varlamov said to ColoradoAvalanche.com. “I feel better now. I did some treatment the last few days with my wrist, and I’m feeling good.”

On the Buffalo Sabres …

Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times HeraldJack Eichel has taken part in some practices, but it still seems unlikely that he’ll be able to play on Tuesday.

“Today was a good test for him in a lot of ways, the speed and the pace of practice and the workload,” Sabres coach Dan Bylsma said. “There was some five-on-five, there was some D-zone coverage, two-on-two battles down low.”

The Sabres play the Rangers on Thursday and the Bruins on Saturday. He could return for one of those games.

Sam Reinhart was given a maintenance day yesterday.

Defenseman Dmitry Kulikov skated by himself before practice. He’s been dealing with a sore lower back all year.
