Ansar Khan: Forward Andreas Athanasiou (sprained knee) said he’s not sure when he’ll return to the lineup. He’s been skating for five days and feeling better.

Ansar Khan: Defenseman Alexey Marchenko (sprained AC joint) will still need to take part in a few more practices before he’s able to return.

On the Washington Capitals …

Isabelle Khurshudyan: Defenseman Matt Niskanen practice yesterday on the top power play unit, so signs are pointing to him returning to the lineup tonight.

Isabelle Khurshudyan: Coach Barry Trotz said that T.J. Oshie is not expected to return to the lineup this week. Oshie has been doing more at practice and took some penalty kill reps yesterday.

On the Buffalo Sabres …

Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald: Coach Dan Bylsma said that Robin Lehner is day-to-day with a hip injury.

“He’s lobbying to back up ,” Bylsma said this afternoon inside KeyBank Center. “He’s going to see how it is in the morning.”

His hip cramped up on Tuesday.
