Renaud Lavoie: Price was on the ice for 30 minutes with Stephane Waite and left before the main group started practicing.

On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Pittsburgh Penguins: Penguins coach Mike Sullivan on Matt Murray: “He is getting real close to joining the team for practice. That’s progress from his standpoint. He has been skating.”

Pittsburgh Penguins: Coach Sullivan on Bryan Rust: “Rusty is getting very close to clearance. I believe he will be a coach’s decision here very shortly.”

On the New York Rangers …

Larry Brooks: Coach Alain Vigneault said defenseman Dan Girardi has a “hip flexor” and is “Day to day, hopefully sooner rather than later.”

On the Arizona Coyotes …

Craig Morgan: The Coyotes will activate defenseman Kevin Connauton from the non-roster IR. He could play tonight.

Craig Morgan: Injured defensemen Michael Stone and Connauton traveled with the team.

Craig Morgan: Winger Jamie McGinn is still day-to-day with an upper-body injury and won’t travel with the team when they leave for their six-game road trip.

David Pagnotta: The Oiles are not sure about how serious Jonas Gustavsson injury is yet. They will be recalling a goalie today.

Mark Stpeneski: Forward Jiri Hudler is doubtful for tonight due to an illness.

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

Mark Masters: Forward Josh Leivo was skating before practice yesterday. Coach Mike Babcock said that he could rejoin the main group at practice soon.

Kristen Shilton: Leivo was trying to pass a test yesterday to return to practice. He could be with the team today.

On the New Jersey Devils …

Andrew Gross: Sergey Kalinin was back at practice yesterday. He’s on the IR with an illness.

On the Nashville Predators …

Adam Vingan of the Tennessean: Predators defenseman Anthony Bitetto will be out for four to six weeks with an upper-body injury. Bitetto was hurt during a fight with Jordan Tootoo.

Forward Miikka Salomaki will be out for six to eight week with a hand injury. He blocked a Brian Campbell shot with his right hand.

Both players have been placed on the IR.

On the St. Louis Blues …

Tim Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Forward Jaden Schwartz injured his left elbow during training camp skated with Alex Steen and Vladimir Tarasenko at practice yesterday. He was scheduled to return in early Novemeber, but coach Ken Hitchcock is hopeful that he’ll be able to play “in the next few games” and didn’t rule out returning tonight. Schwartz is being a little more cautious.

“It feels better,” he said. “We don’t have a game circled yet. I’m just trying to get the timing, feel a little bit more comfortable. But it’s feeling better.”

Jori Lehtera, Kyle Brodziak and Carl Gunnarsson are all listed as day-to-day with upper-body injuries.
