Mark Masters: Goaltender Frederik Andersen on if he was worried about missing time after he left Saturday’s game early: “Well, you have to go through the protocol & stuff”

Kristen Shilton: Coach Mike Babcock on defensemen Nikita Zaitsev and Roman Polak: “Both guys are progressing, we’re optimistic both guys will be ready, but I can’t guarantee anything.”

Chris Johnston: Nikita Zaitsev, Roman Polak and Tyler Bozak didn’t practice yesterday.

Steve Simmons: Source saying that Zaitsev “will be all right to go” for Game 1 on Thursday.

On the Montreal Canadiens …

Eric Engels: Forward Max Pacioretty will be re-evaluated this morning and coach Claude Julien said he’s pretty certain that he’ll be ready for Game 1.

On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Jonathan Bombulie: Coach Mike Sullivan said that Evgeni Malkin will return to the lineup for Game 1.

Wes Crosby: Sullivan said there is a “real chance” that Carl Hagelin could return to the lineup this series. He’s listed as day-to-day.

Wes Crosby: Sullivan said that Chad Ruhwedel is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

On the Ottawa Senators …

Ken Warren: Coach Guy Boucher wouldn’t comment on if defenseman Marc Methot would play or not.

Bruce Garrioch: Methot said that Penguins Sidney Crosby reached out to him after the slash. Methot isn’t sure if there will be long-term damage.

Brent Wallace: Methot sounded frustrated with is finger and how it’s healing. wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t play tonight.

On the Washington Capitals …

Jesse Dougherty of the Washington Post: Defenseman John Carlson returned to practice yesterday but Carlson and coach Barry Trotz wouldn’t say if he’ll be ready for their opener tomorrow night. He’s been out with an undisclosed lower-body injury.

Brett Connolly was skating with his regular linemates yesterday at practice and appears to be over his illness.

On the San Jose Sharks …

Paul Gackle: Forward Logan Couture was doing some battle drills yesterday. He didn’t take any significant contact, but wasn’t backing down.

Eric Stephens: Coach Randy Carlyle said that Patrick Eaves is fine and was practicing yesterday.

Eric Stephens: Defenseman Korbinian Holzer was back on the ice yesterday. Defenseman Clayton Stoner practiced yesterday.

ESPN: Defenseman Michal Rozsival had surgery yesterday for facial fractures as a result of being punched by Ducks forward Nick Ritchie last week. Ritchie was suspended for two games. The doctor said the “surgery went well and he’s expected to make a full recovery.”

On the Nashville Predators …

Adam Vingan: Forwards Colin Wilson (lower-body) and Calle Jarnkrok (lower-body) didn’t practice yesterday.
