Morning Hits: Gelinas, Moore, Coyotes, Pavelski and Sekera
  • Tom Gulitti of the Record: Devils coach Pete DeBoer on the possibility of Eric Gelinas not attending training camp:

“For me, I deal with those situations in training camp like I do the trade deadline. I don’t have any control over those situations. The guys who show up for camp, the 23 guys we end up with (on the opening night roster) are what I’m going to spend my energy on. I can’t spend energy or time on situations I can’t control.”

  • Larry Brooks: Rangers John Moore signed a one-year, $850,000 deal.
  • Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic: The Coyotes will have Jamie McBain, Matt Kassian and Matt Smaby at training camp on a PTO.

“I’m getting a lot of calls right now, and there are a lot of guys just trying to get their foot in the door,” General Manager Don Maloney said. “So we’re still talking about a couple other things.”

  • Wayne Scanlan: Senators GM Bryan Murray confirms that a decision on team captaincy will be made after training camp, with three assistants as a possibility.
  • Chip Alexander: Hurricanes Andrej Sekera said the surgery he had on his abdominal injury is fully healed and he’s ready to go.
