Morning Hits and Injuries: Vasilevskiy, Backstrom, Dupuis and More
  • Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times: Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy hopes to return by the end of October. He was on the ice Monday before practice, taking shots from in close.

“I’m feeling great, almost ready to go,” Vasilevskiy said. “I can do almost everything I want. Every move.”

The only thing that is holding Vasilevskiy back from playing is that he is on blood thinners. He has a doctors appointment scheduled for Oct. 21st and could be cleared to return to practice then. He may need a few games in the AHL before returning.

  • Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post: Nicklas Backstrom’s progress from arthroscopic hip surgery is far enough along that they felt comfortable to release Derek Roy from his tryout. Backstrom will meet with his doctor next week.

“Originally, it was zero to 10 games,” General Manager Brian MacLellan said. “Now, it seems to be four or five games. There’s still uncertainty there, but it looks like he’s progressing well.”

“Nick is progressing very, very well,” Trotz said.

  • USA Today: The Blackhawks put Michal Rozsival on the LTIR.
  • Pro Hockey Talk: Penguins Pascal Dupuis will be out with four to five weeks with a lower-body injury.
  • Don Brennan: Senators Clarke MacArthur (head) practiced yesterday, moving from “doubtful” to “possible.”
  • Isabelle Khurshudyan: Capitals Brooks Orpik is expected to play on Saturday. He can be activated from the IR at any time.
  • Eric Stephens: Bruce Boudreau said that Jakob Silfverberg has been cleared to practice.
  • James Mirtle: The Leafs have put defenseman Stephane Robidas on the IR.
  • Frank Seravalli: Claimed on waivers yesterday: Frank Corrado (TOR), Paul Byron (MON) and Jean-Francois Berube (NYI).
  • Bob McKenzie: The Maple Leafs put Richard Panik on waivers. The Wild put Jordan Schroeder on waivers.
  • Arthur Staple: If Jaroslav Halak is healthy by next week, Jean-Francois Berube goes back on waivers and the Kings would have the first chance to reclaim him.
