On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

  • Sam Kasan of Penguins.NHL: Marc-Andre Fleury went through concussion protocol yesterday.

    “Marc came to us after the game and said he did not feel right,” Sullivan said. “I don’t think it was in the game last night, but he didn’t indicate when. When he brought it to our attention we addressed it.”

    Beau Bennett will be out four to six weeks with an upper-body injury after he hit the boards at an awkward angle after being hit by Capitals T.J. Oshie.

  • Pittsburgh PG: Marc-Andre Fleury will be out for at least one to two weeks with a concussion.
  • Seth Rorabaugh: Coach Mike Sullivan didn’t think Fleury was injured in Monday’s game. He said that Fleury didn’t indicate when it happened.
  • Seth Rorabaugh: Kris Letang and Beau Bennett were put on the IR.

On the Arizona Coyotes …

  • Dave Vest of Coyotes.NHL: Mike Smith underwent core muscle surgery and will be out for at least the next two months. Smith was trying to play through the injury.

    “Obviously that’s not what we hoped for and hopefully he’ll get back quick here, but it’s a big opportunity for me and something you work hard for,” Lindback said on Tuesday, moments after the team announced Smith’s status. “I just want to make the most of it and get out there every game and try to help this team get as many points as we can.”

  • Dan Rosen: The Oilers are targeting Connor McDavid’s return to be around the All-Star break. Nail Yakupov won’t return before Christmas. Benoit Pouliot and Oscar Klefbom could return before Christmas.

  • Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Patrik Berglund skated with the team for the first time since having offseason shoulder surgery. Coach Ken Hitchcock said it’s looking like he could return in January

    “He looks really good,” Hitchcock said. “He looks really fresh. It’s amazing to me when you see a player who comes in looks fresh and compare him to guys who have gone through the wars or the campaign already. He’s not that far away. Hopefully some time in the new year, in January, and he’s going to come back and I think he’s going to give us a big boost.”
