  • Pat Steinberg: Flames defenseman Mark Giordano has a torn bicep and will be out for the season after surgery. Elliotte Friedman: Recovery is estimated at four to five month.
  • Larry Brooks: The Rangers put Henrik Lundqvist on the LTIR to create a bit of cap flexibility at the deadline.
  • Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: Red Wings GM Ken Holland said yesterday that Darren Helm’s MRI revealed only a strained oblique muscle that could keep him out for a not much more than a week. Defenseman Alexey Marchenko suffered the same injury on Saturday.

    “Took pictures today, it’s negative,” Holland said. “And Marchenko is similar. I would say are about a week, give or take a few days. Nothing serious, but they’ll be out for a short period.”

    Henrik Zetterberg skated yesterday and is expected to play on Wednesday.

    “I felt good,” he said. “It was fun to be out there again. It’s my first practice since Saturday, so obviously tomorrow is another one and hopefully I’ll be cleared for contact tomorrow and go from there.”​

    Defenseman Kyle Quincey has been cleared from bone chips in one of his ankles and is expected to play on Wednesday. GM Holland said that Johan Franzen is doing better with his concussion. Hasn’t been ruled out for the year.
