Injuries: Blackhawks, Red Wings, Canucks and Lightning

On the Blackhawks …

  • Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago: Defenseman Duncan Keith skated with teammates yesterday morning. It’s been about three weeks since his knee surgery.

“Obviously I don’t think the leg is as strong as it needs to be,” said Keith. “But definitely feel pretty good for not skating.”

He’s on the LTIR and not able to return until Saturday – if he’s even ready by then. Keith said that the injury originally occurred during the Stanley Cup Final against the Lightning, but he didn’t get it looked at then. He added that it was feeling better over the summer. The issue came back this fall when he started skating again.

“I really noticed it and it was bothering me a lot.”

“It was a mutual decision to try and get it done rather than try to play through something like that all year,” Keith said. “And now I feel like I can be at my best.”

On the Red Wings …

  • Pro Hockey Talk: The Wings put defenseman Kyle Quincey on the IR.
  • Ansar Khan of MLive: Defenseman Mike Green returned to the lineup yesterday after missing six games with a shoulder injury.
  • Goalie Jimmy Howard left the game with just under 13 minutes to go in the third period after being kneed in the head by Stars forward Jason Spezza.
  • Ansar Khan of MLive: Coach Jeff Blashill said that Howard has issues with his contact lenses and didn’t require concussion protocol.

“(Howard) wanted to come back in the game but it had been too long,” Blashill said.

On the Canucks …

  • Brad Ziemer: Defenseman Chris Tanev is out with an upper-body injury. They recalled Alex Biega for yesterday’s game.

On the Lightning …

  • Joe Smith: There was no update on Ondrej Palat’s lower-body injury. The team was off yesterday. More may be known today.
