Matt Duchene Trade: Some Notes, Quotes, Video and Thoughts
Colorado Avalanche trade Matt Duchene to the Ottawa Senators
Some Notes …

Adrian Dater: Matt Duchene formerly asked for a trade from the Colorado Avalanche last Christmas.

Darren Dreger: Believe that the Nashville Predators needed more time to get the deal done. The Ottawa Senators and Colorado Avalanche had been ready to get it done. The Senators were ready to deal for Duchene when they were in Philadelphia.

Pierre LeBrun: Predators GM David Poile had been interested in Duchene for almost a year. Kyle Turris is more of consolation prize for the Predators. He’ll be a great fit in Nashville.

Darren Dreger: Was told that there have been at least five occasions where the Avalanche were close to trading Duchene in the past several months.

Adrian Dater: Coach Jared Bednar said that J.T. Compher will be the Avs new second line center.

Some Quotes …

Sportsnet: Matt Duchene after the being traded.

“It’s very weird to obviously get pulled during a game and then be playing my first two games against my old team is very strange,” he said. “But it was something I half expected.”

The trade happened during their game, with Duchene being pulled in the middle of it.

“I was joking before the game with my family that this might happen today,” he said. “I kinda knew before they told me. I saw them talking on the bench. It’s very strange. Like I said I half expected it to be the weirdest way possible.”

David Pagnotta: Avalanche GM Joe Sakic: “We’ve said all along that we wanted to be patient & wait for right deal, & this is the opportunity we feel is best for the org”

Dan Rosen: Gabriel Landeskog said the Duchene situation had turned into a circus:  “Our No. 1 focus is on the guys that are here and that want to be here.”

Adrian Dater: Defenseman Erik Johnson on Duchene: “He didn’t want to be here.”

Some Thoughts …

Don Brennan: “Two 1sts, a 3rd, Turris for Duchene. Like Duchene, but think that’s too much. Difference between Turris-Duchene isn’t that great”

Robby Stanley: “I like that the did this now. It was no secret. They needed offense. Now they have time to develop chemistry down stretch.”

Bob McKenzie: The Avalanche may have received more futures than they may have liked, “but it’s all currency.”
