NHL Rumors: Detroit Red Wings – Predators, Lightning and Bruins
Mike Green is just one player the Detroit Red Wings will be looking to move ahead of the NHL trade deadline.
On the Detroit Red Wings …

Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: The Red Wings will be sellers this week, looking for draft picks and high-end prospects.

“I’m looking to the future,” general manager Ken Holland said Monday. “I’m working the phones to see what’s out there that makes sense for us.”

Defenseman Mike Green is expected to play tonight and is generating interest. He has a no-trade clause.

Forward Gustav Nyquist has a year left at $4.75 million and a no-trade clause. A team like the Nashville Predators could be interested as they are looking for scoring.

The Wings will likely also be looking to make trades at the draft.

They are expected to be quiet in free agency, except for maybe some inexpensive free agents like Thomas Vanek.

Craig Custance of The Athletic: It appears that they are a lot more sellers this year compared to the number of buyers.

“There’s six teams that want to buy and 15 that want to sell,” said a GM.

Pending free agent defenseman Mike Green will be moved.

Could the Red Wings package Gustav Nyquist and Mike Green in a deal to a team that is looking for a winger and defenseman? Maybe the Tampa Bay Lightning? The Red Wings can retain salary to help increase a return package.

The Red Wings may need to move out some forwards to allow for some of their prospects to make the jump next year.  Luke Glendening could interest teams, but the fourth-liner carries a $1.8 million cap hit for another three seasons. The Wings could retain $800,000 in a deal.

There has been some interest in defenseman Danny DeKeyser, but not enough for the Wings to move him yet. Defenseman Xavier Ouellet could be moved. An assistant GM on DeKeyser.

“If he was making four million, I’d like him a lot better than at five. There’s just no offensive upside. His defense is in the range of a Ron Hainsey. He can log minutes.”

The Boston Bruins had some interest in Darren Helm, but they wanted to send a bad contract to the Wings in a deal.
