Bruins trade Hunwick to Avs for Cohen

Rich Thompson of the Boston Herald: The Boston Bruins have sent defenseman Matt Hunwick to the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Colby Cohen. The move was a cost cutting measure for the Bruins as Marc Savard is close to returning the lineup.

Clearing Hunwick’s $1.4 milion salary, and assigning Cohen to the AHL, creates enough cap space bring Savard off of LTIR. Hunwick became expendable after Johnny Boychuk returned from injury and the Adam McQuaid showed he’s ready to play in the NHL.

Chris Chambers of the Denver Post: Avs coach Joe Sacco likes his mobile defenseman to jump into the play, so Hunwick should be given the opportunity to put up some better offensive numbers.
