Atlanta Thrashers Trade Ilya Kovalchuk to the New Jersey Devils

The Atlanta Thrashers have traded all-star forward Ilya Kovalchuk to the New Jersey Devils.

NHLSourcesSay (twitter), say that the Devils are sending Bergfors, Oduya, Mattias Tedenby and a 1st round pick.

Bob McKenzie via Twitter confirms the Devils are sending Bergfors, Oduya, Patrice Cormier and a 1st round pick to the Trashers for Kovalchuk.

Chris Custance (of Sporting News) via Twitter:  confirms the Devils are sending Nicklas Bergfors, Johnny Oduya, Patrice Cormier, and a 1st round pick for Kovalchuk and Anssi Samela. They are also swapping 2010 2nd round picks.

Kovalchuk was selected 1st overall in 2001. So far this year he’s scored 31 goals and added 27 assists. In 594 career games, scoring 328 goals and adding 278 assists. He also turned down $101 million dollars over 12 year, and other deals in the $10 million a season range.
