NHL Rumors: Maple Leafs, Ducks and Islanders
Cam Fowler against the Toronto Maple Leafs
On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

Chris Nichols: Darren Dreger on TSN 1050 saying that he hasn’t heard anything “substantive” on trade talk involving the Toronto Maple Leafs: “I don’t get the sense that Toronto is in the heat of anything.”

On the Anaheim Ducks …

Chris Nichols: Darren Dreger on TSN 690 saying that he checked in with the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday: “Right now, Cam Fowler is not on the market.” Dreger added: “They don’t have a defenseman available, regardless of what’s being speculated.”

On the New York Islanders …

Arthur Staple of Newday: (mailbag) When asked if the Islanders are playing Jaroslav Halak more to showcase him to other teams, Staple responds with the Islanders need wins, and Halak gives them the best chance. It may be too early in the season to be showcasing players. If he was playing bad and they kept starting him, you might be able say that they were trying to move him.

Mikhail Grabovski won’t play this year due to a concussion, and his future could be in doubt. Next year he carries a $5 million cap hit, but a $5.5 million salary. With the salary being higher than the cap hit, it makes him more difficult move if a team needs to get to the salary floor. Guess is that that he’ll remain with the Islanders and put on the LTIR if need be.
