NHL Rumors: Boston Bruins and Loui Eriksson Update
Loui Eriksson of the Boston Bruins

On the Boston Bruins and Loui Eriksson …

  • DJ Been of WEEI: As of this afternoon, the Bruins and Loui Eriksson’s agent haven’t resumed contract talks. The Bruins most recent offer is said to be for four years. GM Don Sweeney admitted that he’s had trade talks involving Eriksson.

“Loui’s a good player. He’s having a great season. He’s been very important for our success up to date and we treat it as such,” Sweeney said. “If another team — and I’ve had several discussions with teams — felt that it was equal on that side of it and the deal was the right fit, then that’s something we’d explore, but my preference has been all along to try to sign him and go from there.”

Sweeney said they are still considering keeping Eriksson beyond the deadline, even if he’s not signed.

“Absolutely,” Sweeney said of potentially keeping Eriksson without a contract. “Loui’s a valuable player.”

  • Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Sources saying the Bruins will be “very active” today and tomorrow. Trade chatter has increased. The Wild may be the leading candidates for Loui Eriksson if the Bruins decide to trade him. The Wild could badly use some scoring help. The Wild have been interested in Eriksson for awhile, and Jonas Brodin’s name has been in trade speculation.

The Blues, Ducks and others are interested in Eriksson.

Haggerty thinks Jamie McGinn would be a good bottom-six fit.

Heard the Bruins being one of the 15-20 that asked about Jonathan Drouin. Don’t see them having the assets, or willing to give up the assets.

  • Shawn Simpson: Eriksson would be a good fit with the Blues. Sounds like the Wild are pushing hard.
  • DJ Bean: “Sides know there is ground to be made up. If either are serious, the coming hours would be the time to do something.”
  • Jimmy Murphy: Wonder if it was the Bruins that backed about from the talks with the Ducks when they found out what pending RFA Sami Vatanen wanted. (Murphy reported six year and $6 million per)
  • Jimmy Murphy: Sounding like the Ducks have backed off Eriksson, and have turned attention to another forward.
  • Joe Haggerty: Things could be heating up between the Bruins and Wild. Eriksson fills a need for the Wild. Bruins would need to add more to get Jonas Brodin.
  • Darren Dreger: Could be shopping day for the Bruins. All quiet on Eriksson
  • Darren Dreger: (going off a McKenzie tweet about Jonas Brodin’s name in trade rumors) Would interest the Bruins if they don’t get Eriksson signed to an extension.
  • Brian Lawton: Think that the Bruins will re-sign Eriksson, which would then shift the focus to Boedker.
  • Boston Bruins: Coach Claude Julien on the trade deadline: “Right now I think we have a pretty good focus on just playing the game, so it’s been good that way.”
  • Andy Strickland: Have been told that Eriksson has come down a bit on his contract demands. He was looking for a deal similar to the one Andrew ladd rejected from the Jets. (Six-years, $6 million per)
