Rumors II: Lightning, Sens, Habs, Jets and Preds
Steven Stamkos

  • Sportsnet “Headlines”: Elliotte Friedman on Tampa Bay Lightning’s contract offer to Steven Stamkos.

“Earlier this week we reported that the Lightning had made an offer to Steven Stamkos some time in the last few weeks,” Friedman said. “It’s believed that the average salary of that offer is $8.5 million dollars. We’ll see where that takes the negotiation as we head to the trade deadline.”

Damien Cox: The Ottawa Senators talked to the Lightning about Jonathan Drouin. The Senators are not going to include defenseman Cody Ceci . The Senators also don’t have a lot of room to add salary.

Elliotte Friedman: Teams have been asking the Montreal Canadiens if Alex Galchenyuk is available, but have been told that he is not available.

Elliotte Friedman: A number of teams would love to add defenseman Dustin Byfuglien as a rental player. The Jets are going to take a run at signing Byfuglien to a contract extension.

  • Flutu Shinzawa of the Boston Globe: Dustin Byfuglien will be able to get more on the open market than he would from the Winnipeg Jets. He’ll be 31 years old in March, so he could be a bit of long-term risk. There will be teams that won’t have a problem with giving him $7 million a season.
  • Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: On Elliotte Friedman on CHED 630  on the Predators looking from more offense.

“Yes, I do. I think they absolutely will be. I know some people have linked them in with a potential guy like Loui Eriksson. I think that is something that makes a lot of sense. I know that David Poile has indicated that they’ve talked Jonathan Drouin. That makes a lot of sense for them.”
